Tattoo Care Instructions

You are done. Go get some food. Your body needs protein to replenish the energy and plasma and blood cells that it spent while getting tattooed. After that you might want to stop by a drugstore and buy some Aquafor ointment and some mild soap, perhaps scentless Dr. Bronner's, You will need these two things to take care of your tattoo for the next two weeks.

Read the rest of these instructions when you get home.

  1. Leave your bandage on for 6-24 hours. If its now evening, just sleep with it. Having it covered longer won't hurt it. Taking the bandage off before the skin has had a chance to close up might.
  2. After taking off the bandage, wash your tattoo thoroughly with a mild soap such as : Dr. Bronner's, Cetaphil, baby soap, Dove bar soap (etc.). Wash well. All of the old goo, plasma, blood should be washed off. Pat it dry with a clean towel, or let air dry.
  3. Apply a small amount of ointment such as Aquafor to your tattoo. Rub it in.

First 2 days:

  • wash your tattoo 1-2 times a day
  • ointment 2 times a day

Third day - 2 weeks:

  • wash 2-3 times a day
  • ointment 2-4 times a day

Please do not:

  • Do not use products containing aloe vera, perfume soaps, antibacterial anything, or flavored lotions.
  • Do not scratch or pick at your healing tattoo. Slapping to relieve itching is fine.
  • Do not soak your brand new tattoo. Examples of soaking: swimming, hot tubbing, taking baths, bikram yoga classes.
  • Do not sun your new tattoo. Sun will eat your pigment. After you are completely healed, use sunscreen.

Other suggestions:

  • Stay hydrated.
  • Drinking a lot of alcohol as you heal will impede your healing and make your tattoo heal badly.
  • Keep your tattoo clean.
  • Give your new tattoo plenty of air.

Within three months after your tattoo is healed, I will be happy to touch up my work or make small adjustments to the design. Free of charge. Please keep in mind, this offer doesn't extend to hand and foot tattoos.
